Beavers & Cubs Stand-Up Paddleboarding
26 September 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
£17.00This is a great opportunity for Beavers to be involved in this type of activity. We have once again selected Essa as our provider to give us as leaders, and you as parents, utmost peace of mind.
What is Mega SUP?
These are truly enormous versions of Stand Up Paddleboards that you will have seen on lakes and rivers. Each one will hold around 10-12 young people. Essa instructors will organise games, races and general fun activities on these monster boards!
Young People will need to be water confident i.e. they won’t panic if they fall in. In addition to instructors, Essa will also provide safety boat cover for this activity.
They will be kitted out with buoyancy aids, wet suits , and helmets. They MUST wear their own soft soled shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. No sandals or wellies.Old trainers are fine; alternatively water shoes may be purchased at Sports Direct, for around £7.
They will obviously also need dry clothing/towel etc. to get changed into afterwards, plus some food for lunch.
There is a charge of £17 per child, which covers all instruction and kit hire.
Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first come/first served basis
DIRECTIONS:
Essa is in Broxbourne, about a 40 minute drive from Borehamwood. Please arrange any carshares via your Group’s facebook page.
The post code you need for your satnav is EN9 2PB which is not Essa’s base, but very near to the top of the lake. (note, if in doubt please consult https://essa.org.uk)
Some GPS systems may take you through Nazeing Glass Works and along the River Lee towpath. This does not lead to the front entrance of ESSA and the track is unsuitable for many vehicles, so make sure you come in from Meadgate Road.
At M25 junction 25, take the A10 North. Take the exit after you have passed Tesco and M&S, signposted A1170 to Broxbourne.
Follow A1170 north, through Wormley & Broxbourne. After about 1.5miles, turn right at traffic lights, sign posted B194 to Nazeing. Pass Broxbourne Station on your left. Continue for 1.5 miles past Broxbourne Riverside.
Just past the parade of shops on your left, at the traffic lights, turn left into North Street. Follow this road through the bends for about 3/4 mile, until you see “Lignacite Works” and turn left into Meadgate Road.Once on Meadgate Road, keep going past the lake and boats on your right. You will see another lake on the left which is Central Lagoon where Essa operate. Immediately past the lake, turn left and follow the track around the lake to the end where you will find Essa.
